Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family navigate their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
