Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot stated.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction

The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period like this with results like these.”

Jones finished, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always fight.”

“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
