Hulu is Developing a Far Cry TV Show from the Creators of Alien: Earth and the Comedy Hit.
The most recent action-packed game that players dived into was Far Cry 6, that featured Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the villain, Antón, and was released on October 6, 2021. As a series, it is known for celebrating chaos and madness with equal glee, all while telling captivating, ideologically themed stories. Little surprise that the network’s decision for a Far Cry limited-run show brought on board two producers whose projects have exemplified all of those things.
About the Series
Based on Ubisoft's successful video game property, the limited anthology series will be available on Hulu and be produced by FX Productions. The series will also parallel the video games' format by featuring a new setting and ensemble in each season.
Executive Team
Rob Mac, producer of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the talent behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as showrunners on the series via their labels, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be partnered by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
The network enjoyed outstanding relationships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a collective six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are working together for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a announcement. “I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is original, gripping, and extremely entertaining. We also want to appreciate our collaborators at Ubisoft for trusting us with this cherished property.”
Upcoming Developments
Mac will also feature in the show, but as of now, we do not know what role that might entail. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently approved for another season, with FX and Disney agreeing to a new comprehensive agreement with the creator.
“Having the opportunity alongside Noah Hawley is a fantasy come true,” stated Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been exceptionally generous, placing faith in us with one of the most iconic video-game realms ever created. And through it all, my FX family always encourages me with their ongoing trust and backing.”
“The aspect I admire about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an standalone series. Each game is a take of a concept, the same way every series of Fargo is a adaptation on a theme,” noted Hawley. “To produce a big action show that can change from season to season, while always exploring the essence of people through this multifaceted and unpredictable perspective, is a long-held aspiration. I’m excited to collaborate with Rob and present our shared bold, visionary approach to the television.”
A time frame for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not been announced. The series will be available on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus in other regions.
