Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is unclear and the US has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted debris fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
