Jurgen Klopp says rejoining to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that returning someday remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign which brought continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans holding him in high esteem would welcome the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he told Steven Bartlett: “I said I won't manage another team on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, so the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would need to occur to bring him back to the touchline, he revealed he isn't eager toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; I don’t miss going to media briefings four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, yet sharing a meal with the team talking freely, that’s nice. Success was frequent thus frequently great spirits at the club. I can still hear the captain's chuckle in my ear for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, but he rubbished the idea of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. This is a well-built balanced team. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and its impact for the team. Jota was killed in a road accident with his brother recently.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A devastating blow for all the boys also. No one within the club would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Dealing with that on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
