Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United just seven months after instigating disrespectful songs directed at the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has signed a contract joining the second-tier club in difficulty until January. His seven-year spell with Leeds was ended by mutual consent in August.

Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead abusive chants about Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the former England international will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue his beloved club away from the bottom places.

Previous History Between the Striker & the Manager

The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

Everything seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford aiming to resurrect his playing days.

The Wilder chant went viral this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”

Latest Career Struggles

Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
