The President Calls Loved Ones of Shot Guard Soldiers to White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
White House Invitation
The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump told journalists. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Response
Attendees assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist public safety in Washington DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her former high school, stated to the press. “She was caring, caring and always willing to support those in need.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Government Revisions
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event caused the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and temporarily stop granting entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey said on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told a news show that she aimed to speak to the family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with excellence, per the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey told the gathering at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
